If John McCain wins the nomination, but loses the general election, are the moderates finished?
Q. So many conservatives, evangelicals, pundits, "fiscals", and other "establishment" Republicans are upset with McCain. They don't like him. They talk about not voting for him or supporting him in the general. They wish they had someone more like Ronald Reagan, or like who they Thought George W. Bush would be. Moderate Republicans, on the other hand, are swayed by McCain's perceived "electability". I've spoken over and over about how much disdain I have for "electability", but a lot of people say, "Hey, at least he can win." Whether or not you believe that, they certainly do. If he is, then the GOP will go back to a crazy person for 2012, which means Hillary or Obama will be re-elected in a massive landslide, and then maybe some semblance of sanity will return to the Republican Party. We can only hope, because America needs a strong conservative party to make sure the government doesn't go too far. Just like America needs a strong liberal party to make sure the private sector doesn't go too far.
