Mail, or post, is a method for transmitting information and tangible objects, wherein written documents, typically enclosed in envelopes and also small packages are delivered to destinations around the world. Anything sent through the postal system is called mail or post. In principle, a postal service can be private or public. Governments often place restrictions on private postal delivery systems. Since the mid 19th century national postal systems have generally been established as government monopolies with a fee on the article prepaid. Proof of payment is often in the form of adhesive postage stamps, but postage meters are also used for bulk mailing. Postal systems often have functions other than sending letters. In some countries, the postal system also has some authority over telephone and telegraph systems. In others, postal systems allow for savings accounts and handling applications for passports. Early postal systemsMany early post systems consisted of fixed courier routes. However, development of formal postal systems occurred much later. The first documented use of an organized courier service for the diffusion of written documents is in Egypt, where Pharaohs used couriers for the diffusion of their decrees in the territory of the State (2400 BC). This practice almost certainly has roots in the much older practice of oral messaging and may have been built on a pre-existing infrastructure. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by unknown - Fri Aug 21 15:20:38 2009 How much postage do I need to send my absentee ballot in Contra Costa County, CA? Q. I have to send back my absentee ballot for the CA presidential primary, but it doesn't say anywhere in the instructions how much postage is required, and I can't find the information online. I know it's not pre-paid and some places say it requires anywhere from 60-97 cents. Anyone who voted in the same area remember how much the postage was? Thanks. OK, so I went to the post office and it's just one stamp. Asked by anayra87 - Fri Jan 25 15:08:39 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am an absentee voter in Santa Clara County, and my ballot requires 58 of postage. Since all California ballots are the same for this election, yours should be the same. Answered by shushubean - Mon Jan 28 18:06:10 2008 What is the best way to figure out postage, when selling an item on ebay?
Q. I am new to selling on ebay, and I wanted to know how much to charge for postage, itstead of running every item to the post office to be weighed before hand. Asked by Chiroskafan - Mon Jul 6 00:10:12 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It actually depends on how you are going to ship it. If you are going to ship it USPS you would need to go to www.usps.com and you can calculate your shipping there by zip code, size of package, and weight of package. If you are shipping UPS, there are calculators there as well at www.ups.com. If you are selling an item on Ebay, and have PAYPAL, and the buyer has paid via PAYPAL, you can go directly from PAYPAL and they will figure the postage for you and you can even print your label right there and the charges deducted from your PAYPAL account. Hope this helps. Answered by Pinklight - Mon Jul 6 00:47:14 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Postage"
