Stamp collecting is the collecting of postage stamps and related objects. It is one of the world's most popular hobbies, with estimates of the number of collectors ranging up to 20 million in the United States alone. CollectingStamp collecting is not the same as philately, which is the study of stamps. A philatelist may, but does not have to, collect stamps. Many casual stamp collectors accumulate stamps for sheer enjoyment and relaxation without worrying about the tiny details. The creation of a large or comprehensive collection, however, may require some philatelic knowledge. Stamp collectors are an important source of income for some countries who create limited runs of elaborate stamps designed mainly to be bought by stamp collectors. The stamps produced by these countries may exceed the postal needs of the countries, but may also feature attractive topical designs that many collectors would like to have in their stamp album. Asked by kamelasa - Tue Mar 24 18:43:56 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. Sorry to tell you this, smokybunny, but there are many young people today taking up knitting and sewing. You are not looking -- maybe smoking too much! Whatever anyone is interested in will be taught and carried on by the next generation. But if you have no interest in it, you won't study or learn it. That's how it is with anything. If someone can show young people the excitement of collecting stamps, they would take it up. But today, they want everything to be instant and animated -- stamps don't do that. They are a silent messenger from far away, carrying stories with them that are hidden and secret. It takes someone with an imagination (sadly lacking in today's children) to be able to find it and enjoy it. Some will discover… [cont.] Answered by hairbender - Wed Mar 25 00:15:45 2009 was stanley gibbons the man who invented the hobby of stamp collecting? The first issued postage stamp began with Great Britain's Penny Post. On May 6, 1840, the British Penny Black stamp was released. The Penny Black was engraved the profile of Queen Victoria's head, who remained on all British stamps for the next sixty years. Rowland Hill created the first stamp. Q. I bet jesus did not use stamps Asked by First Namerggdf - Mon Aug 3 07:36:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. By all that's holy! You're right! I have inspected the postmarks on this morning's mail and I have detected cunningly-concealed messages, including DATES and the names of PLACES!! I am yet to determine the exact significance, but I feel certain that dark forces are at work within the Royal Mail and people should be told!!! At last, I see the truth. Stamp collectors and philatelists are, in fact, two sides of a secret war: collectors are trying to gather the messages of their dark and hidden masters in order to coordinate their fiendish plans for world domination, whilst the noble paladins of philately are dedicated to studying the techniques and secrets of the devilish collectors, even at the peril of their very souls!! The secret is… [cont.] Answered by precinctomega@btopenworld.com - Wed Aug 5 03:33:12 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Stamp Collecting"
